KiVo Engineering Services is a Melbourne structural engineering consultancy. We started KiVo to close a gap we kept seeing on site: buildings are getting more complex, but fastening design is often left until last, which leads to clashes, rejected inspections and delays.

We combine research-based expertise in concrete anchorage with practical structural engineering. That covers timber-framed housing design and inspections to AS 1684, foundations for commercial and complex projects to AS 2159, bridge and infrastructure inspections, and the assessment and strengthening of existing buildings.

How we work

  • Anchorage worked out properly. We check concrete cone breakout, cracked concrete, edge distances and earthquake actions instead of relying on catalogue tables.
  • Details you can build. Drawings are prepared for site crews, fabricators and building surveyors, with clear installation notes and tolerances.
  • Direct access to the engineer. You talk to the engineer who knows your project, from the first call to the final inspection.

Standards we work to

AS 5216 (fastenings in concrete), AS 1684 (residential timber-framed construction), AS 2870 (residential slabs and footings), AS 2159 (piling), AS 3600 (concrete structures), AS 4100 (steel structures), AS 1170.4 (earthquake actions) and the National Construction Code.

What we do

  • Anchorage and fastening design

Design and certification of cast-in and post-installed anchors in concrete to AS 5216, from base plates and facade brackets to remedial fixings.

    Standards: AS 5216AS 3600AS 4100

  • Bridge and infrastructure inspection

Level 1, 2 and 3 bridge inspections, condition ratings, AS 5100.7 load ratings and maintenance advice for road, rail, pedestrian and council assets.

    Standards: AS 5100AS 5100.7

  • Timber and residential engineering

Structural design, framing inspections and Regulation 126 certificates for timber-framed homes, townhouses and renovations.

    Standards: AS 1684AS 1720.1AS 2870

  • Geotechnical and foundation design

Pile, raft and basement retention design for commercial and multi-storey projects, based on your site's geotechnical data.

    Standards: AS 2159AS 2870AS 4678

  • Strengthening and condition assessment

Condition audits, crack monitoring, dilapidation surveys and strengthening design using CFRP, steel and underpinning.

    Standards: AS ISO 13822AS 3600AS 4100

  • Commercial and multi-storey structural design

Structural design of concrete, steel and timber frames for commercial, industrial and institutional buildings.

    Standards: AS/NZS 1170AS 1170.4AS 3600

  • Site testing and pull-out testing

On-site pull-out and proof load testing of anchors, with test certificates and a remedial design if anchors fail.

    Standards: AS 5216AS 3600

  • Training and standards advice

Training, peer review and code guidance on anchors and AS 5216 for site teams, installers and design offices.
